On March 26, 1995 , Austria , Belgium , France , Germany , Greece , Italy , Luxembourg , Portugal , Spain , Norway , Finland , Sweden , Denmark and The Netherlands have signed the Schengen Treaty introducing a new type of visa, the Schengen visa.

The Schengen visa issued by the Embassy or the Consulate of the above countries is valid for all of these countries and allows its holder moving freely within the territory of the Schengen Treaty.

Applying for the Schengen visa:
If you intend to visit only one of the Schengen countries, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy or the Consulate of that country.
If you intend to visit several Schengen countries, you must apply for a visa at the Embassy or the Consulate of the country of your main destination.
If you intend to visit several Schengen countries without having a main destination, you should apply for a visa at the Embassy or the Consulate of the first Schengen country on your travel itinerary that requires you to have a visa.

Please note that we issue visas to Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway , Sweden, Finland and Iceland only up to 3 months. If you intend to study, work, or marry to a citizen of one of these countries and will therefore stay there for more than 3 months, you have to apply to the Embassies of these countries in Moscow .

As a rule, decisions concerning your visa will be taken within 5 working days, however, in case the application of the nationals of the Republic of Kazakhstan or from other C.I.S. states needs to be referred to the Central Authorities of the Netherlands , Belgium or Luxembourg , there will be a delay of 1-8 weeks before the decision will be made.

For that reason we strongly recommend that you submit your application at least 5 weeks before the intended date of your travel.
The nationals of Afghanistan, Bangladesh , Congo , Eritrea, Ethiopia , Ghana , Iran , Iraq, Nigeria , Pakistan , Somalia , Sri Lanka require a transit visa to pass the transit zone of the Netherlands Airport.
Visa are issued free of charge if
  • an applicant is married to an EU national (upon presentation of documentary proof, such as passport and a marriage certificate);
  • an applicant is an EU dependant under the age of 18;
  • an applicant holds a diplomatic or a service passport (upon presentation of a note of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or from a representing diplomatic mission in Almaty stating that the journey is made for official reasons).
